Tennis, la numero del ranking femminile, Ashley Barty, rinuncia anche a Roma e al Roland Garros. La campionessa non vuole viaggiare per paura del Covid

Tennis, la numero uno del ranking femminile mondiale, Ashley Barty, ha annunciato che rinuncerà a due importanti gare. Salterà gli Internazionali d’Italia di Roma, e soprattutto il prossimo Roland Garros, dove avrebbe dovuto difendere il titolo conquistato lo scorso anno. Per la campionessa australiana la paura del Covid è troppo forte, visto che non intende viaggiare in Europa per evitare la pandemia, comunque presente anche nel suo paese.

It has been a difficult decision to make but unfortunately I will not be competing in Europe this year. Last year’s French Open was the most special tournament of my career so this is not a decision I have made lightly. There are two reasons for my decision. The first is the health risks that still exist with Covid. The second is my preparation, which has not been ideal without my coach being able to train with me due to the state border closures in Australia. I wish the players and the French Federation all the best for a successful tournament. I now look forward to a long preseason and the summer in Australia. It has been a challenging year for everyone and although I am disappointed on a tennis front, the health and well-being of my family and my team will always be my priority. Thank you to my fans for your continued support, I can’t wait to play for you again.

La Barty ha deciso di non giocare nemmeno gli Us Open, rimanendo praticamente ferma per la paura della pandemia. “E’ stata una decisione difficile da prendere – ha scritto la giocatrice su Instagram – ma quest’anno purtroppo non verrò a giocare in Europa. L’Open di Francia dello scorso anno è stato il torneo più bello della mia carriera, e per questo la decisione è stata difficile. Ci sono dei rischi per la salute a causa del Covid, e poi perché il mio allenatore sarebbe impossibilitato a seguirmi per le restrizioni in Australia”.
